If you do use lip balm, products containing beeswax are very effective at protecting from the outside. Worksl on cuticules and cracked fingers as well.

I agree with keeping hydrated for well hydrated lips. But in the extremes of winter, I've found that using lanolin works very well. You can find it in any drug store in the breastfeeding products section. It is sold for new moms to use to help heal cracked nipples. I bought my tube 5 years ago and it's still only halfway used up.

Helen, when I think tennis elbow, I think inflammation which makes me think of lots of fresh pineapple! Ginger tea (a slice of fresh ginger in a cup of hot, filtered water, steep 5 minutes) is helpful, too.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions regarding chapped lips. I did increase my water intake and noticed an improvement almost right away.

Last night I learned my sister has tennis elbow and is great pain. Any suggestions as to how she can help herself in a natural way???

Thanks, Pamarama. I think you are right, I stand corrected. I bought the bag balm before I learned about more natural products, and neglected to look at the ingredients before tossing that out as something to try! I stand corrected. This blog carnival is for me to learn and grow in this area. I appreciate your input, and hope you will join in the fun by contributing more good ideas!

Kimberly, I'm surprised to see that you recommend Bag Balm on a site dedicated to "natural" cures. Petroleum jelly (one of the three ingredients in that famous product for cracked teats!) is not a product I like to use on my skin.

Antioxidants are the hope for many diseases including cancer, diabetes, hypertension, arthritis and stroke. Choosing the right antioxidant is very important. The berries, like cranberry, acai berry etc are good but there is a sorghum bicolor extract which holds the record for the highest antioxidant so far. There are scientific publications attesting to this fact but unfortunately, sorghum is not for human consumption in the USA but for animals. In some parts of Africa, the use of Sorghum parts for taking take of many diseases dated back to several centuries.

Helen,
I agree with Diane - drinking more water never hurt and also making sure that in the winter you get enough good fats (nuts, avocadoes, olive oil are all good sources).

I would also suggest vitamin E - you can buy it in little bottles at MOMs Organic or Whole Foods and probably any health food store. I use it on myself in the winter as well as my children and it seems to help.

Good luck - Katherine
