I briefly published a post about a sustainable scandal at VA Tech. I was asked to pull the story off by someone I mentioned in the piece. But, in the brief time it appeared on my blog (about an hour), it was picked up by the media. Please check out the story I broke, here on Hartke is Online. It is very interesting how political sustainable foods have become on college campuses!
Tempest in an Egg Cup?
Controversy Ensues at Virginia Tech Over Sustainability, School Dining, Poultry Farming
by Tracy Sutton
They say you have to break some eggs to make an omelet. But what kind of eggs — cage-free or conventional? — was the question recently when Virginia Tech’s sustainability coordinator for dining services, Andy Sarjahani began purchasing cage-free whole eggs for the school through a local supplier in Nelson County, Virginia. (Previously, the eggs were purchased from an out-of-state vendor.)
Here is an Opinion Editorial by Joel Salatin on the issue:

I had no idea what was going on at VA Tech! I applaud the school for appointing a sustainability coordinator for dining services. How wonderfully forward-thinking! I applaud Andy Sarjahani for taking such a bold step. Kudos to the news services who picked this up and ran with it. It belongs on CNN, MSNBC and local stations too, where Mr. and Mrs. America can get a glimpse at how manipulated their food supply is.
I guess if misery loves company, outrage loves a posse. And I’m pretty outraged.
