Sacred Foods Are Safe Foods

Perhaps great great grandparents have something to share with us to ease our stressful lives.

In the age of “Safe Foods” there is a important discussion about “Sacred Foods” taking place at the upcoming Wise Traditions 2009 conference.  Moving beyond pasteurization, irradiation and food regulation – using the wisdom of the ages, the Weston A. Price Foundation Conference elevates the conversation occupying our attention these days – food safety – healthcare – and quality of living.

Why did our ancestors call certain foods “Sacred”?

What were the nutrients in these foods that helped them survive the day-to-day stresses of no-public sewage, water or electricity, no R-Factor insulated homes, no cell phones, tvs or radios, no mass transportation, no healthcare system or refrigeration?

These foods helped generations survive harsh and primitive living conditions, and yet today, they’ve all but been abandoned.

Our stresses are different – traffic, bills, taxes, pollution, chronic disease and infertility all take their toll – and yet, we don’t have these “Sacred Foods” in our diet to help us cope. In fact, the government has defamed “Sacred Foods”  as “Scary Foods”.

There is a reason why comfort foods are so comforting. The saturated fats in butter, cream, cheese indeed to sooth our jangled nerves, and promote clearer thinking. But, our ancestors had access to these “Sacred Foods” from cows eating grass.  Confinement dairy operations cheat you and me out of the sun-drenched, stress-relieving nutrients that cows eat, and we get from grass-based whole milk, cream, butter and cheese.
