Sylvia Shops for Local Foods in Florida

by Sylvia P. Onusic, PhD, Guest Blogger

Sylvia is reporting from Southern Florida, where she is on spring break in with her family.

The first thing I do in a new locale is to seek out the farmers markets, organic food and other local staples.  And, who better to ask but the WAPF local chapter leaders.  I consulted the  Weston A. Price website, and found  David Bukhari, who told me that he and his wife, Medina, were chapter leaders, had a food store, and sold raw milk and cream.  Today I visited the store and met half of the team, Medina. They sell local cow’s milk and cream and offer a wide array of food selections for the large Eastern European community which resides in this part of Florida, including fresh local produce.

Media told me that they have been in this location about two years.  When in the area please visit “Camilla” to get your “home away from home” local foods products.

Right now it seems that fresh strawberries and tomatoes are “in season.”  On Thursday morning I will scope out the local Farmer’s Market in Fort Myers and see what else is in season.

Today I learned that my home town in Pennsylvania was covered with one foot of snow and smiled. I was happy to be in Florida, if it was only for a couple of days to smell the sea air, feel the warm sun, see the green earth, and enjoy the fresh food.
