It really is as much about corporate control and agri-bussiness interests as it is about “big government.” The government is merely doing the bidding of the milk processing monopolies, so that they can maintain their market share and control of milk prices.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again — The dairy industry is quite possibly the most corrupt sector in agriculture today. Follow the money, and you will know why the government does what it does.

He’s absolutely right and this is not an isolated incident. They are always attacking natural foods or alternative medicines or natural supplements. The FDA is a completely corrupt agency that is little more than a government sponsored arm of corrupt big pharma and food nazis like Monsanto.

A Government big enough to give you everything you want is a Government big enough to take it all away! When the Government can regulate it and tax it you may have it. Until then we will waste taxpayer money on these raids instead of raiding maybe a meth lab. Don’t always agree with Stossel and his libertarian views but hats off to him for this.

Interesting the way politics come into the arena… I don’t mind at all being called a nut but I do mind being placed under a specific political label and even more so I mind the systematic stripping of my personal liberties. I am a conservative. I am a liberal. Very much a libertarian too.

When you hand over to an agency the authority that rightly belongs in the hands of individuals you end up with a nanny state such as we are experiencing with regard to our food freedoms (and more…).
We have become an irresponsible and litigious nation, always wanting someone to take the blame rather than being someone who accepts their responsibility.
So… how do we disengage the tentacles of an agency-turned-monster such as the FDA?
I have written to my congressman and senators. I am now a constant disseminator of information. I have also become very careful of what I let my money say, meaning I support local agriculture and industry and am in the midst of a divorce with consumerism.
Now I am shopping for fresh ideas and action points. Anyone have any?

Stanley, I agree with you entirely. Nobody has the right to tell an individual what they can put in their body, and I don’t think the line ends with food, but that’s another conversation.
J.L., sadly I don’t think this is carryover from the Bush administration. That said I don’t think you can blame the president, whoever he is, for such an incident. It would seem more the responsibility of the commissioner of the FDA.
In short though I think one of the greatest dangers facing this country at the moment is the stark dichotomy between political parties and apparent need for left/right affiliation. No political party is ever going to nail every issue straight across the board. There are 300,000,000 (three hundred million) people in this country and just about as many different ideas on how the country should be run. Unfortunately people vote more according to a party, whether they actually agree with it or not, because they were taught that way or have been doing it for so long, instead of actually taking a closer look at the issues being dealt with and formulating their own opinions on them.
That and fear of being “politically incorrect” are running this country into the ground. DON’T BE AFRAID TO SPEAK YOUR MIND, EVEN IF IT MIGHT UPSET YOUR NEIGHBOR. People fought for your right to do so and it would be irresponsible for you to waive that right.

well, regardless of what side of the fence you sit on, we all have to eat, including  conservatives and conservatives are the ones that generally would like to keep the govt out of our business. It isn’t the conservatives  who want to dictate how much salt you can eat. it is not them who are forcing McDonalds  to get rid  of their toys in the kids meals or not allowing  parents to send a lunch with their kids to school.  It is called freedom- freedom to choose what and how and where and when we would like to eat and the left in Washington pretty much would like to take that freedom from you- see since the believe none of us are capable of making those decisions for ourselves
