We have been feeding our meat bones and scraps to a fox in the neighborhood. We even have a designated “fox plate” which we set out in the front woods at our house. Two nights ago, I poured the fat skimmed off the beef bone broth. It must have thoroughly satisfied Mr. Fox, because last night he didn’t come back for the rest of the meaty bones pulled out of the broth!
Living proof that mammals need fat, and fat satisfies their hunger.
I used to fret about what to do with all that fat skimmed off my stocks. I couldn’t put it down the sink drain, and hated putting it in the trash. Now, I know that, like the kitchen produce scraps I compost in the Vita-mix and pour on my garden, I need to dispense with the meat fats in the same way, give it to mother nature aka Mr. Fox, so that he benefits from the energy and nutrition in the animal fat. The only thing I throw away these days is paper! Guess I need to start recycling all that, and I will be in total synergy with nature! The paper is easily recycled now that I am not throwing food scraps in with it!!
