Success in Sour Times Segment Profiles No-GMO Wheat Farmers
This morning on the treadmill at the gym, my jaw dropped when I saw a CNN news story about a group of wheat farmers who opted out of the commodity wheat market and have begun to sell direct to their own customers. CNN referred to it as, “network farming,” other wise known as farm-to-consumer direct sales.
I spoke with one of the farmers by phone, to find out if they use GMO (genetically modified) wheat seeds and he said, “No, we do not.” Isn’t that fantastic?
They do use some herbicides and pesticides, but only those approved by the Food Alliance. He said they are working with Jill Clapperton, a soil consultant with Earth’s Spirits to further enhance their soil so they can reduce the need for such chemicals.
