Wanted Healing Remedies from Nature, Nutrition!

Exciting New Blog Carnival Announced by HartkeIsOnline.com

Our New Blog Carnival Logo

Some of you may have noticed that one of my categories on this blog is Get Well Naturally–Blow off Pharma Drugs. I am an anti-drug person, illicit, pharmaceutical, over the counter, it doesn’t matter. I don’t even like to take aspirin (take a look at the list of possible side affects from aspirin sometime, it is 4 pages long!) My personal philosophy is to help the body heal, whenever possible, by natural means. I have seen too many deaths, injuries and too much physical and emotional damage that these chemical solutions do to people. So, in keeping with this, I would like to begin a blog carnival, where readers and other bloggers can contribute natural, holistic remedies, protocols, strategies that have worked for you.  Personal testimonies, recipes, even healing miracles, good books on the subject, stories of doctors who have helped you without drugs, exercise regimes for specific ailments, all of these we will try to cover, and more. Past stories that fit the topic are also welcome, we’d love to dig into your archives for some natural healing ideas!

We also welcome the participation of doctors, nurses, alternative health practitioners and other health care professionals! We will be happy to provide a link to your website in exchange for a non-drug approach to healing.

New Carnival Every Tuesday

We will launch the carnival, next Tuesday, for the first one, we will take any healing idea from nature or nutrition.  We will have the carnival every Tuesday for the next two months and see how it goes. Some Tuesdays, if we don’t have enough entries, I would like to have some guest blog posts that I can put up that week. So if you have a penchant to write about natural healing, go ahead and send me an article by email with your photo and bio. I will have in on my hard drive to publish when needed.  You can send your links or guest post ideas to me by email, to kim.hartke at gmail.com and I will post them.  Please copy the logo below for the carnival as well as the artwork credit beneath it and use it on your blog post if you are a blogger.

If you do not have a blog, please send me your story/remedy by email along with a photo if you have one to illustrate the idea.

How You Can Help Promote the Carnival

All of us who want to achieve wellness without pharmaceuticals will have a vested interest in the success of this carnival. Please consider doing a blog post announcing the carnival for me, I would really appreciate your help getting the word out.

Any suggestions as to what to do about chapped lips?? I have been using lipbalms and keeping well hydrated and still have sporadic episodes with chapped lips.

Helen–have you tried Shea Butter? I really like that, but not sure if it will heal chapped lips. Also, try bag balm, which is a medicated ointment that farmers use to heal cow udders!

I’ve been begging my elderly mother’s doctor to wean her off a MASSIVE cocktail of prescription drugs that she had been taking over the last 10 years. She looked like a chemo patient after some time (having lost much of her hair) and she was always weak and dizzy.

Since coming off almost ALL of these prescriptions she looks and feels so much better, and her hair came back in fully!! Through the use of diet and some natural supplements, her blood pressure has normalized, she’s lost a ton of weight and has gotten off insulin. She only has to take her glucophage pills now, nothing else.

After reading about the power of cranberries as an anti-cancer food, I began making a new form of Beet Kvass with Cranberry juice, and it really enhances the taste of beet kvass, and I consider it a great anti-cancer tonic. Simple recipe below.

    ENHANCED BEET KVASS:
    1. Make Beet Kvass as out-lined in Nourishing Traditions Cookbook. Do not fill to the top with water, but rather leave about 2-3 inches of space at the top of the jar.

    2. Take fresh or frozen cranberries, (if frozen thaw out first). Use approx. 1 cup of cranberries per each bottle of beet kvass. Run the cranberries through your juicer. Mix the juice with the pulp, and if your making more than one jar of beet kvass, you would make enough cranberry juice/pulp, and divide it evenly amongst the bottles of beet kvass. After three days of fermenting in a closet, place in refrigerator for about four weeks. It becomes fizzy and wonderful the longer its in the fridge. Enjoy!

I just used MANUKA Honey to cure my daughters BAD case of Pink Eye. I understand there are several kinds…viral, bacterial, allergen, dermatological. I believe her’s was bacterial.

I diluted 50 – 50 honey to water, with just a bit more water…the water was WARM not hot as to keep the antibacterial properties alive.

I put 2-3 drops a day in her eyes. She said it stung and didn’t like it (she is 9) I gave her the choice of the doctors or home care. But I told her if home care didn’t work, we were going to be going to the doctors.
    She chose home care.

At night I took some honey out of the jar with a spoon as to not cross contaminate the honey, and then used a q-tip to apply the honey (with eyes closed) to the corner of her eyes and across her eyelash. She complained and didn’t like it, but did it anyway.

The next day 100% of the redness was gone.
Day 2 there was ZERO mucus being produced.

I treated for 4 days with the diluted honey drops 2-3 times a day.

And at night for 3 nights with the pure honey in her lash line.

I have also used MANUKA bio active honey to succefully treat a secondary infection that my son had with a cut on his arm. By day 2 no swelling and 75% less redness. Day 3 100% healed.

PS. I hear the BEST treatment for pink eye is Breastmilk. If we ever get pink eye again I will be asking my friend (who is nursing) for some of her milk. She of course is like minded ;)

Helen, I believe that chapped lips are caused by not drinking enough water. I don’t know how long it takes from when you drink it to when it helps, but next time reach for water instead of lip balm & after a bit of time your lips will become moist again. Or you can put on balm until they feel less dry; just know it treats only the symptom and not the problem. Also if you eat a high sodium food (bacon, ham, commercial pizza)you will need extra water to counteract the sodium. Your body is trying to tell you it needs water!

    Helen,
I agree with Diane – drinking more water never hurt and also making sure that in the winter you get enough good fats (nuts, avocadoes, olive oil are all good sources).

I would also suggest vitamin E – you can buy it in little bottles at MOMs Organic or Whole Foods and probably any health food store. I use it on myself in the winter as well as my children and it seems to help.

    Good luck – Katherine

Antioxidants are the hope for many diseases including cancer, diabetes, hypertension, arthritis and stroke. Choosing the right antioxidant is very important. The berries, like cranberry, acai berry etc are good but there is a sorghum bicolor extract which holds the record for the highest antioxidant so far. There are scientific publications attesting to this fact but unfortunately, sorghum is not for human consumption in the USA but for animals. In some parts of Africa, the use of Sorghum parts for taking take of many diseases dated back to several centuries.

Kimberly, I’m surprised to see that you recommend Bag Balm on a site dedicated to “natural” cures. Petroleum jelly (one of the three ingredients in that famous product for cracked teats!) is not a product I like to use on my skin.

Thanks, Pamarama. I think you are right, I stand corrected. I bought the bag balm before I learned about more natural products, and neglected to look at the ingredients before tossing that out as something to try! I stand corrected. This blog carnival is for me to learn and grow in this area. I appreciate your input, and hope you will join in the fun by contributing more good ideas!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions regarding chapped lips. I did increase my water intake and noticed an improvement almost right away.

Last night I learned my sister has tennis elbow and is great pain. Any suggestions as to how she can help herself in a natural way???

Helen, when I think tennis elbow, I think inflammation which makes me think of lots of fresh pineapple! Ginger tea (a slice of fresh ginger in a cup of hot, filtered water, steep 5 minutes) is helpful, too.

I agree with keeping hydrated for well hydrated lips. But in the extremes of winter, I’ve found that using lanolin works very well. You can find it in any drug store in the breastfeeding products section. It is sold for new moms to use to help heal cracked nipples. I bought my tube 5 years ago and it’s still only halfway used up.

If you do use lip balm, products containing beeswax are very effective at protecting from the outside. Worksl on cuticules and cracked fingers as well.

avatarI would have never imagined that I would be blogging, or that I would join a group like Real Food Media. None of this would have happened without you. I mean more than the help you have given me, though I appreciate it very much. I also mean seeing the great good you do with your blog, with supporting WAPF, with advocating real food and the great info you provide on so many issues. There is such a desperate need for this information. You are an inspiration to me. Thank you for being who you are, and for doing what you do.
