How Parents Can Save $8,000 on Orthodontics!

by Hartke is Online! Contributor, Janice Curtin

Assuming you have two children, and the average cost of braces for each child  averages at least $4,000, you will probably need to spend over $8000 to straighten your children’s teeth.  But did you know research was done years ago that shows how this expense can be totally avoided?

Yes, It’s true.   Research was carried out by a famous dentist named Weston A. Price.  Dr. Price studied traditional cultures around the world that ate their native diet.  He found that these groups, who were not yet exposed to the refined and toxic foods of modern civilization, displayed beautiful teeth, as well as exceptional health and happiness.

They had almost no cavities—in general, less than 0.5 percent.  He continually found they had beautiful facial structure and normal dental bone development with room for all thirty-two teeth, which were straight and even.  In other words, because of good nutrition, they were able to fulfill their blueprint for perfect growth.

Compare that to today’s children who often have narrow faces.  Dental cavities are quite commonplace and are even considered to be normal and unavoidable.   We expect most children will need braces, which are painful, stressful, time consuming, and expensive.  Extraction of wisdom teeth is considered to be a normal rite of passage for most teens and young adults.  But have you ever considered that this was not meant to be?

What did these early people eat?  Diets varied around the world, but none were vegetarian and in every case they consumed some combination of meat and organ meats, fish, shellfish, eggs, and raw milk, cheese and butter.   They did NOT eat  factory-made boxed cereals, canned or pasteurized milk, refined vegetable oils, sugar, or flour.  They did not have low fat or imitation foods.  Whole grains were traditionally prepared by soaking or fermenting to release nutrients and eliminate anti-nutrients.

The Sargeant family has seen all food, dental and medical costs drop, as a result of switching from the standard American diet to the Weston A. Price dietary guidelines.

You can help your child obtain beautiful teeth and bone structure, his natural birthright,  as did the Sergeant family, shown above.   You can do it, in spite of media advertising and factory food lobbying.  Learn more about how by visiting www.WestonAPrice.org and www.highest-health.com.

The oldest Sargeant son, brought up on the standard American diet until the age of seven, has a narrowed palate and crowded lower teeth.

The third child, raised on a nutrient dense diet since the age of two has more room for the teeth and is unlikely to need orthodontics.

Very interesting and well written article. It reminds me of when I visited the Masai Mara, a tribe in Eastern Africa who has avoided assilimation into the modern world and still consists entirely on their ancient diet. I was astonished to note that all of the Masai I came into contact with had beautiful, straight and sparkling white teeth. Ancedotely it lends proof to this article.

I did not know about nourishing traditional diets when I conceived my two children. Both have dental problems. We are trying pallet expansion instead of braces. I learned about this technique at the Weston A. Price Foundation Conference in 2008. This technique will hopefully maintain all 32 teeth. The work will be completed before they become teenages. It appears that early intervention is far cheaper than standard orthodontic treatment.

Great posts.! I wanr ro share a tue story. There was a 12 year old boy, who had grown up on SAD. He had a narriw face, and his teeth were crowded together. A couple of his teeth had no room to come out. The dentist wanted to do oral surgery followed by braces. The boy did not want this. His parents were learning about the WAPF dier. A deal was struck.

The boy gave up candy. soda, and all junk food.. He took cod liver oil. He ate real milk, raw cheese, grassfed meat, pastured butter, grassfed beef tallow, real lard. He drank a pint of bone broth every day.

Three years passed. Everyone of his friends had braces. the boy’s mouth and face widened. The teeth came out perfectly. All of his teeth straightened out, and became nicely spaced. Dental work? None.

Wow! Amazing how the human body responds to real live foods. Sadly, I didn’t know this information when my kids were young and they are part of the ‘brace’ statistics. They have never had a cavity though …. they’ve always brushed with our Tooth Chips – Soap for Teeth. These are fluoride, SLS, and chemical free. http://www.roseofsharonacres.com/tooth_chips___soap_for_teeth

Kids are always prone to lose their teeth specially when it is a baby tooth, this maybe change by time and even old may experience loosing their teeth because of not proper caring of it.

Wow, this is a fascinating post. It makes perfect sense to have a healthy diet in order to not only grow straight teeth, but to also be healthy in general. They say, “You are what you eat” and this applies 100% including your teeth.
    Thanks for this great post!

I’ve read about this in another blog. So there’s this diet that affects the health of children’s teeth, huh. I guess that’s why my teeth are unhealthy. I wish I could have taken better care of my teeth when I was still a kid in Tucson, AZ and I hope I can find a dentist that can help me straighten things out. I’ll share this tips with my brother who just took his daughter to her first visit to the dentist.

    Hello,

The whole story makes sense, its what I see yeah. Only question I have, because I read teeth always keep moving will this diet make teeth straighter as a adult?

Thx for answering somebody that knows about it.

Answer from author of two books on diet and teeth, Rami Nagel:

First, on the article, the child’s facial structure and template at birth makes a huge impact on how wide their dental arches are.
If a child is started on a good diet later, there may be limitations.

I have not heard that teeth always keep moving.
On the contrary, I would say health adult teeth would never move at all.
The better the diet, and the more firmly implanted the teeth are.
The jaw does continue to slowly grow as we age.
The diet will not make teeth straight as an adult.
An adult will need to expand their upper and lower palate to make room for the teeth to be straight.

    best wishes,
    Rami

    Hello,

Thx for answering, now my question if you expand the upper and lower palate to make room for the teeth to be straight. Is that the same principe like you would get with the diet is that making your jaw also bigger so you get more bone?

  16. Posted March 15, 2011 at 3:16 am | Permalink

In children and adolescents, bones grow despite bad diet as long as malnutrition is not extreme. In adults, physical stimulus is needed to grow bone to make room for straightening teeth. Good nutrition helps, but diet alone cannot control the direction and amount of bone growth. Only proper pressure from palatal expanders can. Hope that helps.

Wow, you can save $8,000 on orthodontic services? Those are good savings. I agree, ortho services does not need to be expensive.
