The Devil is in the Absence of Details

Weston A. Price Foundation, a nutrition education non-profit, claims cholesterol is misunderstood. It plays a key role in body chemistry, hormone balance, longevity. But if that is the case, why are we not told? Unfortunately, because the health information released through the media to the public often has a marketing objective. The objective is to sell more drugs.
Cholesterol lowering drugs (know as statins) have serious side effects. They suppress the immune system, they cause cancer, they cause muscle wasting. The pharmaceutical companies promote statins to doctors doing organ transplants, because they know these drugs have immuno-suppressant affects. One should think long and hard about going on them. There are even lifestyle changes that can dramatically improve ones blood lipid profile. But, it is also important to know all the facts. Cholesterol is a valuable and healing substance, it is a vital part of your immune system. If the public knew the whole truth, they would only lower their cholesterol as a last resort.
There is one organization setting out to slay the big fat demon who wants to lower everybody’s cholesterol.
Learn the Health Benefits of Cholesterol
The nutrition education non-profit, Weston A. Price Foundation is an important source of science based facts about the nutritional qualities and health benefits of cholesterol. Here is an excellent article on our website, Cholesterol, Friend or Foe? This article details how our cells are comprised of 50% cholesterol. Our nervous system needs cholesterol. Our digestion and source of vitamin D depends on cholesterol. Turns out, cholesterol is our friend, and we have been misled into believing otherwise.
Here is an excerpt from our recent press release:
WASHINGTON, DC, September 1, 2009–September is National Cholesterol Education Month, when government officials will stress cholesterol reduction as a top priority, claiming that “high levels of cholesterol significantly increase the risk of heart disease.” However, the Weston A. Price Foundation, a nonprofit nutrition education organization, urges citizens to celebrate September by learning about the vital roles of cholesterol in the body chemistry and by embracing nutrient-dense, cholesterol-rich foods.
“Cholesterol is deemed a deadly poison. Most people are afraid of eating foods containing cholesterol and of receiving a diagnosis of ‘high’ cholesterol,” says Sally Fallon Morell, president of the Weston A. Price Foundation. “Yet, having adequate cholesterol levels in the body is key to good health. The notion that cholesterol is a villain in the diet is a myth, based on flimsy evidence and opposed by many honest scientists, including prominent lipids researcher, Dr. Mary Enig. But, this theory was promoted by the food processing industry to demonize animal fats, which are competitors to vegetable oils and by the pharmaceutical industry to create a market for the sales of cholesterol-lowering drugs.”

Will Parents Accept the Truth About Cholesterol?
A scientist who received our press release, wonders if parents will reject the science which says cholesterol is vital to human health. Here is her question, and the Foundation President’s answer.
Meet the Cholesterol Lowering Skeptics
Here is a link to an excellent article by a medical doctor and scientist, Dr. Uffe Ravnskov, The Benefits of High Cholesterol. He is also the chairman of the International Network of Cholesterol Skeptics. This is a website worth investigating if you want to know the concerns a number of prominent medical professionals have about cholesterol lowering.
If media reporting on medical issues were truly balanced, every time you’d see a report about cholesterol, one of the cholesterol skeptics would be there to explain the other side of the story. But, where in the devil are they?
Demon slayers wanted!
If you have a personal testimony, or scientific study about the importance of cholesterol in the human diet, please submit a guest blog article, I would love to publish it. See the Contact page for details.

I got an email from someone with a statin drug HORROR story. She said to check out the comments on this website, guess the devil is having his way with our health!:

Statin drugs cause problems for many people. To lower cholesterol people should first try diet, exercise and supplementation along with a change in lifestyle. Too many doctor’s are not even talking to patients about these thing but just putting them on drugs like that was the only alternative.
This was a comment on another message board where I posted a link to this post:
Thank you so much, Kimberly, for sharing. May I please add another link from the WAPF website: http://www.westonaprice.org/causticcommentary/cc2001su.HTML (entitled “Caustic Commentary–Summer 2001″).
I just came across the above article upon looking up the key words “natural antibiotics”, before seeing your email. I work in a pharmacy as a certified technician (believe me, I keep my mouth shut but I do a lot of silent praying for people!) and I’m seeing the statin-pushing first-hand. It horrifies me.
I believe the frenzy surrounding statins is fueled by their profitabilty, not their ability to prevent heart disease, and that many people needlessly suffer debilitating side effects in the false belief that it will save their life, simply because it lowered their cholesterol.
I have spent countless hours on the net in forums trying to dispell the cholesterol scam.
( By the way, the letters in SCAM stand for Serum Cholesterol And Money.) What drives me is that if My efforts save just one life, it is all worth it.
Ancel Keys is considered the Father of the cholesterol theory since he published his famous seven county study decades ago. But there are approximately 194 countries in the world, yet Keys compared cholesterol levels and death rates from heart disease from only 7 countries and came to a final conclusion. From that seven country comparison, We the World bought his theory- and fell for it hook, line, and sinker.
If statins were so effective and the wonder drugs they are claimed to be, There would be a sharp decline in the death rates from heart attack. A decline that would correspond to the rising curve in statin usage over the last 20 years. But that hasn’t happened. Although death rates from heart attacks have steadily declined since 1968, the graph holds a relatively steady point A to Point B course from 1968 to today, and is completely unaffected by the rising curve of statin usage from 1987 to today.
This is also further evidenced by the poor NNT scores of statin drugs. NNT or NUMBER NEEDED TO TREAT is a number used by pharma to express absolute risk reduction.
NNT answers the question “how many people have to take this drug for just one person to benefit?” We all know it will lower cholesterol, so benefit is defined as preventing a heart attack or stroke. This is where the drugs fail miserably. Yet consumers are unaware because big pharma only advertises the relative risk reduction which doesn’t tell the complete story.
Crestor advertises up to 47% reductions in heart attacks and strokes. But what they don’t tell you is that 241 people had to take the Crestor for almost 2 years to prevent 1 heart attack. And that 288 people had to take Crestor for almost two years to prevent 1 stroke. or that 120 people had to take
Crestor for almost 2 years to prevent heart attack, stroke, or death from CV causes combined.
1 + 1 doesn’t = 11
do the maths maybe these people don’t just own media companies!!!
