Prayer of an Angel
Yesterday, Keith and I attended the burial service for one of our real estate agents, Elena. At the age of 45, cancer took her from her loved ones. Many tears were shed because of her untimely passage to heaven.
Her mother and father wept bitterly, her husband’s face was ashen, her beautiful strong daughter comforted them and then broke down herself into inconsolable tears. It was a dramatic and moving scene at the end of a sudden and swift illness. Her brother remarked to us about how fast everything had happened. In less than a year from her original diagnosis, God took Elena home. She died in her husband’s loving arms, something he said would haunt him forever.
Elena is one of the most elegant and beautiful women I have ever had the privilege to meet. Her brother told us she was full of laughter and love till the end. I refuse to talk about her in the past tense, because as a Christian, I believe her spirit is eternally alive.
Funerals are a very important reminder of the preciousness of life. Being there yesterday, it was evident that each of us is important, we are loved more than we’ll ever know, by our friends and family. We will all be missed when we depart this earth. But, none more than Elena who died so young.
But, events like this are also a wake up call to fight for your life, every day. To honor your body and your spirit by keeping a positive outlook, nourishing your body with good things. Exercise your body, build it up, make it strong for the journey. Forgive others, seek healing, accept the freedom offered by Christ. None of us can take for granted the gift of life. We need to protect it, cherish it, value it, for it is sacred.
God bless you, Elena. May he keep you close to Himself for all eternity. We love you and will miss you.

My husband Paul worked with Elena. I was so disappointed to not see her at our company holiday party this year — she had such a sparkling personality and I will miss her in this world.
Elena was known as Carmen for some and she was my friend for many years, long before she persuaded me to move to National. She praised the leaders of the National as well as agents, who she said “are like a family, extremely friendly. You can’t find this in many places “. And she was right: I’ve never regretted that move.
She helped me buy my house, and she was always available to give me advices and share from her experience. We were neighbors too and shared important moments with our families. These are precious memories that I’ll cherish; her spirit and friendship will be always alive for me and my family. Rest in peace Elena!
I just received this e-mail from a former co-worker at National. What a shock I had no idea she had cancer. I love Elena as she was one of my own family members. What a kind and caring lady she was. She was always in the best of spirits and I would have never seen this coming. God Bless her family and I know she will certainly rest in peace. May God rest her soul. To her family, stay strong as she would only want you to be as strong as she!
