Festival Crowd Listens to Fallon Morell
Many Families Eager to Learn About Childhood Nutrition
by Kimberly Hartke, Weston A. Price Foundation Publicist
Saturday, June 19, was the “biggest event ever for the Fields of Athenry Farm,” according to farmer Elaine Boland. Elaine’s monthly Community Health Outreach Series is very popular, and word is spreading about the lives it is changing. The farm fresh foods festival attracted over 300 guests to the Purcellville, VA farm.

Sally Fallon Morell, President of the Weston A. Price Foundation, a nutrition education non-profit was clearly the draw, her talk on Childhood Nutrition and Mental Development a topic of great concern to the parents of young children who came out to spend a day on the farm.
The talk highlighted the importance of grass based agriculture in producing healthful foods, and the vital importance of animal fats to help build the brains and bodies of youngsters, as well as adults. Critical of the USDA low-fat guidelines, Sally announced that our current epidemic of mental problems, diabetes and obesity can be attributed to our USDA food promotion policy.
After Sally spoke, at least 10 mothers of autistic children from the audience approached her to share their stories. Sally said, “One mother whose first child was severely autistic, told me she switched her diet from the Standard American Diet to following the Weston A. Price dietary guidelines. Her second child was remarkably healthy by comparison.

Healthy Baby Raised on WAPF Diet
One man, who was grinning from ear to ear was particularly enthusiastic. “I was nearly dead. This farm fresh foods diet saved me, I have lost weight, my heart health indicators have all improved. I love this farm and it has helped me change my life!”
Another young mother told me that she was grateful to the Foundation, because it encourages supporting the efforts of women to become pregnant and bring healthy babies into the world.
These cases are anecdotal proof that the foundation’s message is a timely one, and many tragedies will be avoided by getting our message out to the mainstream.

Playing on the Farm Wagon
Today, the Weston A. Price Foundation is releasing alternative guidelines which are based on the traditional “four basic food groups” with an emphasis on traditional farming methods which produce foods rich in nutrients, minerals and enzymes. Here is a link to the WAPF Comments on the USDA Guidelines.
The event was supported by Chef Pedro Matamoros of restaurant 8407 who prepared a lavish tasting menu of foods sourced through the Fields of Athenry Farm store:
· Fields of Athenry Lamb Bolognese with Rigatoni
· Fields of Athenry Lamb Merguez Sausage with Rice, Beans, and Yogurt
· Andouille Sausage
· Country Style Pork Terrine with Crostini
· Roasted Porchetta
· Side dishes: Potato and Egg Salad, Corn on the Cobb, Deviled Egg with Crispy Bacon, Field Green Salad

The Weston A Price diet certainly saved my health, in fact, took me from being always ill to always healthy.
I respectfully object to the term “Anecdotal”. That term is often used to degrade and discount the real life experience and observations of humanity. The term is often used by those who claim that scientific studies are the only way to determine truth.
While scientific studies by an impartial, qualified researcher can be invaluable, many studies are designed to achieve the goals of the companies who pay for them.
I submit that the real life experience of people also shows the truth, and is valuable evidence, that should be respected. Such evidence is accepted as proof in our courts, and should not be discounted. The testimony of hundreds and thousands is proof that the WAPF message is timely, effective, and has saved and/or improved the lives of many people.

Should I say “common sense proof” instead? I have a high regard for anecdotes, but I know what you mean, not everyone else does. It is a derogatory term in many instances. What do the rest of you think?
I just object to the term”anecdotal”, because it is used as a derogatory term, and because many people think it means ‘unreliable”. I have great respect for the personal experience of people as evidence.
I certainly do not want to tell you how to describe anything, I just object to that term.

I attended this event last weekend. Not only was there great food, but the information presented was excellent.
Stanley, you bring up a great point – real life experiences are huge! Especially when we have friends and family who are sick and we see this with our own eyes…once they embrace REAL FOOD we then see their transformation, too. It’s powerful to witness and gives me even more passion to get the truth out!

I was amazed, at the presentation, only wish I could have seen it years ago….My son was diagnosed with Autism last year, and we are on the road to recovery. Because of his diagnosis, I would have never stumbled upon the Nourishing Traditions CookBook, and I wouldn’t know how to cook nourishing foods for him, or for the rest of the family.
I am grateful that there is Someone out there that speaks the WHOLE FOOD truth.
